Copenhagen Cycle Chic

Discovering a new blog that ignites my interest is a real joy – especially one that’s been so successful and I can properly relate to.

Copenhagen Cycle Chic is simple but absolutely awesome. And being a full time cycling Copenhagener, it completely piques my interest. The best way to describe it is for you to take a look yourself, but expect to see stylish people on bikes, such as the girl below.

For sure, there are more pictures of women than men on bikes, but there’s some interesting reasoning for this explained in the FAQ section of CCC – and this reasoning again hit a nerve with me. Check out this page for their explanation, but part of it can be illustrated by this quote that they give, which sums it up pretty well:

Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel…the picture of free, untrammelled womanhood.” – Susan B. Anthony, American Suffragist, 1896.

I came across CCC courtesy of Patrick Kingsley’s book How To Be Danish, which I was given for Christmas by my mother- and father-in-law, Jørgen and Lis. The author interviews the founder of CCC, Mikael Colville-Andersen, who has ended up doing all sorts of interesting things beyond blogging about cyclists, which is another reason why I love the blog because it’s an inspiration to me and my own blogging too. I can’t compete with most of the photos on there but writing this is an excuse to put some of our best CPH cycling photos so far in one place, with hopefully many more to come.
