Following on from Emily and Stuart, here’s the third guest post from fellow expats, and here’s Cecelia, who Dorte and I have shared many adventures with since meeting Cecelia and her husband Eric at my Danish school.
I am… Cecelia, an American geologist
And I moved here in… March 2012
Because… An opportunity came up at work to transfer from Houston to Copenhagen. My husband was about to finish a PhD with potential opportunities in Denmark. We really didn’t have a good reason not to move, figured it might be one of those things we’d regret if we didn’t do it and it sounded like a fun adventure, so we moved….
Best thing about living here is… the fact that Copenhageners seem to enjoy and value the little moments and events that make life enjoyable. That attitude and way of living is illuminating and contagious. The pastries aren’t too bad either.
If you move here, you should… consider learning the language. The locals and the culture will reveal themselves to you through the magic of Danish.
Living here is different because… cycling is my primary form of transportation.
And if I moved away, I’d miss… the long summer days, our friends and Fælledparken.
If you’re just visiting, make sure you… the bike hire goes without saying so, try a history tour from historytours.dk, the harbor tours or even a harbor kayak are pretty great, and if it’s nice, have a picnic in a park with the locals.
In three words, Copenhagen is… livable.
